Custom grillz are made to fit your exact teeth. That's what makes them comfortable and secure to wear. But because they're custom, there's a process — and knowing what to expect at each step makes the whole experience straightforward.
Step 1: Choose Your Style and Specs
Before anything is fabricated, you choose:
- Which teeth: Top only, bottom only, or both (6 on 6, 8 on 8, 10 on 10, etc.)
- Coverage style: Open face (tooth visible through frame), solid/capped (full coverage), brace-connected, or fang design
- Metal: 925 sterling silver, 10K gold, 14K gold, or 18K gold
- Stone/finish: VVS moissanite, diamond dust, diamond cut engraving, enamel, opal, or combinations
Step 2: Receive Your Impression Kit
After placing your order, Bornreal ships you a dental impression kit. The kit includes:
- Impression trays (upper and lower)
- Impression putty (two-part mixing)
- Detailed instructions
- Return packaging with prepaid label
Step 3: Take Your Impression at Home
The process takes about 10 minutes. You don't need dental experience — the kit is designed for self-administration. The basic steps:
- Mix the two parts of the putty together until fully combined (color will change uniformly)
- Press the mixed putty into the impression tray
- Place the tray over your teeth and bite down firmly, holding for 2–3 minutes
- Remove carefully and let set for 5 minutes
- Repeat for the other arch if ordering both top and bottom
Common mistake to avoid: Don't mix the putty too slowly — it begins setting immediately. Have your tray ready and work quickly once mixing starts.
Step 4: Return Your Impression
Package your completed impressions in the provided return packaging and ship back using the prepaid label. Impressions typically take 3–5 business days to arrive at Bornreal's facility in Culver City, California.
Step 5: Fabrication
Once your impression arrives, our craftsmen use it to cast a precise model of your teeth. The grillz are then fabricated by hand directly over this model, ensuring each piece conforms exactly to your tooth shape and size. Depending on the complexity of your order:
- Standard styles (solid, open face): 5–7 business days
- Complex designs (enamel, opal, custom artwork): 7–14 business days
You'll receive photo updates at key stages of production.
Step 6: Shipping and Fit
Your completed grillz ship via tracked shipping. When they arrive, they should slip onto your teeth with gentle pressure and stay secure without adhesive. If the fit feels off, contact us — minor adjustments are included at no charge.
Care Instructions
- Remove before eating, drinking (except water), and sleeping
- Clean with a soft toothbrush and mild soap after each use
- Store in the provided case to prevent scratching
- Never bend or force the grillz — they're shaped specifically for your teeth
